4 months

My dearest son,

Four  months of life outside the womb and you are coming along quite nicely.
You still wake up at 3 am for your 1st morning feeding.  Most nights you go down like clock work at about 9:15pm.  You are a joy to be around and wake up smiling and laughing even on your sick days.

During the last month you have survived daycare and a huge adjustment in your daily routine.  And you did it for the most part uneventfully.  You have started taking a nap at daycare which has allowed you and mommy more playtime in the afternoons.  You had to be upgraded to a car seat.  Although we still use your infant carrier, it's clear you are much more comfortable in a car seat.  Today we will find out your weight and height development but just by looking at you I know you have grown quite a bit and put on some weight which is just fine by me.

This month you have gained much better control of those things called fingers and will pick up things dangled in front of your face no problem.  Also anything at your side during changing time you also seem to be quick to pick up.  You have started to lift your head up on your own when sitting so as to look at things or people and to reach things that are just a bit further than an arms reach.  You adore story time and stay quiet the minute you see a book being opened to be read to you.  Mommy is excited about taking you to the library for story-time.

You still haven't rolled over which is not ideal but you enjoy the rollover game when mommy plays with you.  And you seem to be able to get from your back to your side but not from your belly to your side or from your back to belly.  Of course, mommy who is an over-achiever is not pleased, but you are still developing and I am sure once you master the roll-over we will all be in big trouble.
This month has also marked an increase in noise and sounds and for the first time opening your mouth when I put something other than a bottle or a breast to it.  Could it be that you are almost ready for cereal and some pureed food?...mommy will be sure to ask your pediatrician.

Aww...Ben, you are getting so big so fast.  You love to watch other children play and seem almost mesmerized when ever other kids are around.  Soon my son that will be you but not too soon.  Mommy and daddy love you very much and are enjoying each and every one of your little milestones.  You are deeply loved my son and we hope and pray that you always feel that way.

Your mommy.

3 Months

My dearest Benji,

Last week Friday, you completed 3 months of life. And what a month you have had!

During this past month you have started reaching for items waved in front of your little face. You also constantly reach for my face and hold my hand with your little hand while nursing. I love when you reach out your little hand and the brightness in your eyes as day by day you become more and more alert of your surrounding and the people in your life.

During this last month we have had some really fun times. You took your first international trip to the Caribbean and were the best baby on the plane. You slept the whole time during the hour layover in Newark and then fell asleep an hour into our 5 hour flight. You did awesome and when you weren’t sleeping you were looking around and wondering who all the new faces were.

Turns out Ben that you are an island baby just like your mommy! You basked in the island warmth, you seemed to really enjoy no socks and no shoes and shorts all the time. While on vacation you got to meet a bunch of your cousins, aunties and uncles. We wanted to take you for your first sea bath but decided against after you cried when we put your feet in the pool.

So now my dear child you have been to your mother’s home land and saw the place where mommy and daddy almost got married a year before you visited.

You were a trooper as we attempted to return back to the US and got stuck in the airport for 6 hours trying to talk to a Continental agent. Not fun but you were again the best baby ever as you slept half the time and chilled the remainder of the time. Your Grammy was able to get us on her flight back to Miami, and again you slept the whole flight, which I was grateful for but also surprised. Then you spent the night in a studio hotel room on a chair. It’s a good thing you are still so little because that room was barely big enough for the 3 of us. Of course you slept the night away and were ready to play the next morning as mommy and daddy had to take separate flights to the DMV. You were the picture of perfection on the 3 hour flight back to the DM; SO much so even the flight attendants in business class remarked that you never once cried and were a blast to have in-flight…awe Ben you are the greatest by far.

Also, during month 3, mommy and daddy moved into a new house where you will be able to have your own room, a yard to play in and a playroom to keep your toys

However, with all the joys of month 3, also came some serious sorrows. Mommy had to return to work, albeit part time and you had to head to your first week of daycare. Don’t worry my darling Mommy is trying to figure out a way to be able to stay home with you or lower her part-time hours but for now you are in daycare and while you seem to enjoy the daycare…I know you would prefer to have mommy and daddy home with you.

Well my son, you are growing well and people are constantly remarking about how happy and content you are. I only prayer that feeling of comfort you enjoy can last as long as possible the world is a rough place but mommy and daddy are trying let you enjoy your innocence as long as possible.

We love you…Mommy

2 months

My dearest Ben,

Yesterday marked your 2 month birthday.  And we went to the doctor to find out your weight is off the growth chart at 14lbs 15oz and in the 97th percentile for your length 23.75in and average in the head circumference with 40cm.  All this and you are my little butterball...I love you.

In the past month you have brought added joy to our life.  Mommy is not a morning person but every morning when you wake up you smile and giggle as if to say let's get this party started and that wakes your mommy up in the best mood ever.  Who knew you would make me a morning person...thank you.

You coo now each and everyday and we have mini conversations.  You are starting to learn to control your limbs and will now reach out to grab things.  Mommy's shirt if she's taking too long to feed you, the little lion on your floor toy and so many other things.  You love to stand and are elated when Daddy and I pull you up on your chubby legs.

In the past month we have turned around your schedule so that you no longer sleep all morning but wake up at 8 or 9 am and stay awake for at least 2-3 hours.  You go down for your nap at 2pm without fail and get mad if I try and delay it.  And for the last week and a half I have been able to successfully put you to bed by 10pm.  Thank you for going to bed by 10 it gives mommy and daddy a chance to relax and bond.

You have weathered one holiday, meeting your great aunts and uncles on your daddy's side of the family.  You took your first airplane ride and did an outstanding job.  You didn't cry on the flight, you ate, played and slept...everyone was amazed at how calm you were for such a little guy.

You are growing up so fast my little guy, while I love each day seeing you change and grow.  A part of me is sadden at just how fast you seem to be growing up.  I wish I could video tape each one of your laughs, smiles and funny faces.
Mommy loves you Bengie, thanks for being 100% you.

Te Amo Amor!

1 month

Hello My lil man -

It's been a month and 3 days since your eventful birth...
Aww how you have grown...at your last well baby check up.. you were 11lbs and 6 oz...which is 3lbs 5oz since you were born...wow...you are a big guy. And you have grown 1.5 inches...getting taller and chubbier by the day.

This last month, you had to be rechecked into the hospital due to jaundice, which nearly broke my poor heart.  You learned to latch on so you could get all the breast milk available.  Although, you still tend to favor the left breast.  You discovered your hands and have used them to hold my hands down during feeding and to let me know when you are not happy while crying.  You also discovered your little fingers, after my having them covered for 2 weeks you found that they do exist and that you could pacify yourself by sucking on them.

You have taken well to cloth diapering, you will let me or your daddy feed you by a bottle but only if we give you breast milk.  You will no longer take formula...you have become a breast milk elitist.  You grunt, moan, and sigh all while sleeping and a lot when you are pooping...
In the last month you have peed on Grandma and your daddy and projectile pooped two times onto your mommy...You scream once you realize that bath time means getting wet...you have your own personality and you display it on a daily basis...Aww my jelly bean I fall in love with you all over again everyday... I never knew love like this existed but I thank you for showing me...Happy 1 month and 3 days my love.
